One page written in six languages#

The same page, six versions, one address. It is an example and a measuring stick: bin/layout-check measures line breaking and width on it, in every script, from 320 to 3440 pixels.

Text#

A paragraph exists to be measured. The text column of a page in Japanese, Chinese or Korean is bounded in characters and not in zeros, because the width of a "0" is not the width of an ideograph. Korean does not break a word in half; Japanese follows the kinsoku rules, which say which marks may not open or close a line. None of it follows the reader's language: all of it follows the language the page was written in.

Thirty to forty characters to the line, in a script of ideographs.

Direction#

A page in Arabic or Hebrew runs right to left, and the app does not run with it.

Anchor#

A heading keeps its own letters, in any script.
