Margaret “Peggy” Alvarez, 84, of San Antonio, went home to be with the Lord on October 18, 2026, surrounded by the family she gathered around her table for sixty years.
Peggy taught second grade at Southwest Elementary for 31 years, and former students still stopped her at H-E-B to tell her they became teachers because of her. She and her husband Ray square-danced for four decades, kept a garden that fed the whole street, and never missed a grandchild’s game.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray, and her son Michael. She is survived by her daughter Linda (David), her son Thomas (Carla), eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and her sister Dorothy.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the San Antonio Food Bank, a cause Peggy supported every month for forty years.

| The Ramirez family | Peggy's garden fed us every summer and her kindness fed us always. We will miss her dearly. |
| Former student, class of '92 | Mrs. Alvarez was the reason I became a teacher. Twenty-five years in the classroom, and I still hear her voice when I plan a lesson. Rest well. |
